Quarter to Three

I came back from my Phuket vacation on the 11th of January this year and right after I was having countless of driving practical lessons. Let’s see… 2 driving practical classes back to back after work on Monday, driving class after work, pilates & running errands on Tuesday and 1 driving class after work on Wednesday. On Thursday, I decided to chill a little and went to Tanjong Pagar to hang out with Alicia since her workplace is at that area and her working hours is flexible unless she has a meeting or seminar.

Most Singaporeans know that Tanjong Pagar is filled with heaps of cafes. I did a research online and found out that Quater to Three is really close to Alicia’s office. Moreover, the cafe serves rainbow cake. So I went over to the cafe and check it out. The cafe looks really adorable with the pink and green exteriors and the polaroids hung with a string on the interior. I also enjoyed how they put in an effort to use old school chalk boards. However, the lady serving me was very unfriendly. I was asking her whether the cream or chocolate rainbow cake is nicer and her answer goes, “You like chocolate you choose the chocolate lor. You like cream you choose the cream lor.” She did not bother to engage in a conversation at all and all she wanted was for you to quickly place your order, make payment and head back to your seat for the desserts to be served. This is definitely one of my worst servers I have seen in Singapore’s cafe culture.

While waiting for Alicia, I was occupying myself with a glass of Iced Vanilla that costs me SGD$5.90. Although the beverage has caffeine in it and is not as sweet as other Iced Vanilla that I have tried, I made the wrong choice by not getting tea instead. This is because both the Watching Rainbow and Crunchy Hazelnut cakes need a soothing warm drink to neutralize the sweetness in it. The rainbow cake is very different from the one I tried at Miss Molly’s. As I said above, there are two types of rainbow cakes served in Quarter to Three. You can either have the chocolate coated rainbow cake or rainbow cake with cream frosting. Since Alicia and I were both bored of creamy rainbow cakes, we decided to give the chocolate coated rainbow cake a try. True enough, it was a little different from other rainbow cakes because this is a chocolate flavoured rainbow cake. However, we did not manage to finish it as it was too big and we had enough dosage of chocolate for the day. We needed water or tea to neutralize the taste as well. The hazelnut cake tastes way better because of it’s crunchiness and smooth texture. Even though the rainbow cake at Quarter to Three is better than the bland and room temperature rainbow cake in Miss Molly’s, the rainbow cake at Quarter to Three is still mediocre. I have tasted better ones in the West!

I guess most rainbow cakes around this area would amount to SGD$9.80-$9.90? Well, I will continue my hunt on the best rainbow cakes in Singapore. Just a note though that this cafe fails miserably in their service and the cakes are not worth the price AT ALL! Not.Coming.Back!
