Les Faux Bourgeois

Janet made a reservation for four at Les Faux Bourgeois on her birthday and she decided to invite Dennis, Marvin and I along to celebrate her birthday with her.

Les Faux Bourgeois

As Janet did an exchange in France before, she can tell if a French restaurant is serving authentic French food. She said that Les Faux Bourgeois serves pretty good French food and we ordered the food that she recommended. The host was very friendly but the server was quite nonchalant. The restaurant was a very good place for dining, having good conversations and of course, dating. The music was not too loud that we cannot hear each other’s voice but loud enough to be heard.

Because it was Janet’s birthday, this calls for an occasion to drink. Marvin had the Cognac Old Fashioned (1st picture) while Janet ordered a bottle of 2009 Chateau Roussel for us to share. These cost CAD$11 and CAD$60 respectively. The wine tastes earthly and goes well with meat.

1st picture – Complementary bread, which I did not eat much of.

Janet asked us to get two appetizers to share and she will  treat us as it is her birthday. We got both the Les Tartes Flambees Alsacienne (2nd-4th pictures) and Salade De Chevre Chaud (Did not take a photo of it) to share. The Les Tartes Flambees is orgasmic as the puff pastry tart was topped with caramelized onions, creme fraiche, lardons and ricotta and there is a petite tomato salad at the side. The savory sweet taste is really very appetizing to the taste buds and leaves a lasting impression to the customers. As for the Salade De Chvre Chaud, it was delicious as well but I am not a fan of salad. It comprises of orange, fennel, endive, arugula and parmesan with a citrus vinaigrette.

Ratings for Les Tartes Flambees Alsacienne: 4/5★

Ratings for Salade De Chevre Chaud: 3/5★

5th picture – Even though Janet told me not to order the Duck Confit (CAD$18), I decided to get it as I would like to compare the taste with High Society’s Duck Confit. I was very disappointed as the duck was really dry and I was not able to finish it.  Do not waste your money on this!!! Instead, I prefer trading my dish with Marvin, Dennis or Janet. They got the Lamb Pot-Au-Feu (CAD$19 – 7th-8th pictures), Grilled Newport Steak (CAD$22 – 6th picture) and Longue D’ Agneau (CAD$19).

Ratings for Duck Confit: 2/5★

Since my entree was so bad, I ordered two desserts with Janet because I needed something to compensate for the bad taste. We decided to get the Nut-Crusted Chocolate Silk Cake (10th-12th pictures) and the Milk Chocolate Mousse (9th & 13th pictures). The desserts cost CAD$7 each.  The Nut-Crusted Chocolate Silk Cake is very dense and rich but not too overwhelming or sweet, which I love. It is also very crispy because of the pecan crust. As for the chocolate mousse, it melts in your mouth with a high dosage of milk chocolate. What I love about French desserts are:

1) It is not too sweet.

2) It is not overwhelming.

3) You can taste the flavour instead of the sweetness.

Ratings for Nut-Crusted Chocolate Silk Cake: 3.5/5★

Ratings for Milk Chocolate Mousse: 4.5/5★

The bill came up to a total of CAD$206.08 and we topped 15% for tips. As everyone got different items, both Janet and my total bill was CAD$50 each, including tips.

When I come back to this restaurant in the future, I will get not get any food out of the ordinary. As my friends enjoyed their food, I hope my choice of food will taste better next time. I love their desserts and appetizers though.
