#11 dineout vancouver #2
i’m back feeling way much better about this entire dineout vancouver event. made me think that some dinner sets are actually worth the price stated. i wanted to give up on dineout altogether due to my bad experience on monday @ mistral french bistro. but oh boy, the restaurant i went to today gave me a totally different feeling !
BRIX RESTAURANT & WINE BAR
1138 Homer Street
Vancouver, BC V6B 2X6
(604) 915-9463
price: CAN$38 for 1 appetizer, 1 entree and 1 dessert.

when i first entered brix restaurant & wine bar, i was BLOWN AWAY by the beautiful seating arrangements held outside ! it looks so organized & is decorated with petals & such. & if you think it will be chilly outside, don’t be too quick to judge. the outer area is enclosed with curtains, which has an installed heater in it.
we decided to sit inside anyhows & our server was pretty humorous. he kept us updated with the hockey match between vancouver and chicago when we didn’t even ask him to. he even put on my napkin on my lap for me. i was surprise by his attentiveness & initiation.
wonderful service aside, here’s for the yummilicious food they served !
1) APPETIZERS
A. Prosciutto Wrapped Scallop
bbq brome lake duck & scallion fried risotto
this appetizer is totally one of a kind ! the fried risotto is to die for !!! i wouldn’t mind eating an entire plate of fried risotto just for a meal
the scallop is awesome & really fresh. i did not regret my choice for this appetizer. truly divine !
thus, rating it 4.5/5★
B. Alberta AAA Beef Tenderloin Carpaccio
arugula, shaved red onion & parmesan salad, fried capers, dijon olive oil drizzle

jenny’s dish !! i do not have the right to rate this but jenny definitely loves it !
2) ENTREE
A. Wild BC Sockeye Salmon
lyonnais potato, roast bell pepper rouille

both clement & i agreed that the salmon was a little too salty and it has to be mixed with the rouille in order for the taste to neutralize. spotted a few bones while chewing the salmon. the potatoes were fine but could have been softer. well, i wished i ordered the other entree but this was just alright for me. at least, the entree dish was way better than mistral’s.
my rating for this dish: 3/5★
B. Gulf Island Lamb
roasted rack, braised lamb shank hash, aubergine wrapped tomatoes with
okanagan goat’s cheese, natural jus

thomas finished this within SECONDS ! he was practically enjoying his dish when all of us were camwhoring with the food. kenny and jenny commented that the lamb was a little tough but it is still fine. all three of them love the lamb nonetheless.
3) DESSERTS
A. Sticky Toffee Pudding
appleton rum toffee sauce, tahitian vanilla gelato

the pudding is not as sweet as other restaurants so we definitely had to eat the ice-cream with the pudding. however, there wasn’t much ice cream so there was an excess bread pudding. i was not used to the taste of the bread pudding alone as it tasted pretty bland. could have more improvement in the toffee pudding, i guess.
therefore, i’ll rate it 2.5/5★
B. Duo of housemade sorbet
unfortunately, nobody ordered this so there are no pictures or review over this dessert.
in conclusion, i would rate the entire experience as follows:
ambiance: 8/10
service: 10/10
food (taste & appearance): 6.67/10 (so as to be fair, i only calculated what i ordered)
value: 7/10
total: 7.92/10★
seems like a pretty good dine out afterall eh ? stay tuned as i’ll be back for more since i’m venturing more restaurants this spring break !

Interesting article and one which should be more widely known about in my view. Your level of detail is good and the clarity of writing is excellent. I have bookmarked it for you so that others will be able to see what you have to say.
