sushi entry part #1 – SUSHI TOWERLAND

+ + + +

it is hard adapting to changes but i’ll embrace it with open arms, especially with the help of yummy food and a good workout aftermath !! so even though i’m so sick of constantly eating and preparing sushis, i do not mind trying new restaurants that serves sushi, especially since my church mates love it. here we go again, sushi entry part #2

pras, kenny, edwin and dennis brought me to this restaurant few weeks back. it was relatively crowded and it took us 10 minutes to be seated. the waitress didn’t get us tea or water until we asked for it. just look at the degree of initiation they had ! also, the food had to be paid at the front since the waitress is too busy coming over to our table. just a sidenote: from what i’ve heard from a friend of mine, her friend who is working there told us that if there were any leftovers which are untouched from people’s previous orders, it will be served to new customers instead of throwing the sushis away. HOW ATROCIOUS IS THAT ?!

i had the spicy chopped scallop cone (CAN$3.50) and spicy tuna rolls (CAN$2.95) while the guys had the rest (dynamite rolls, unagi cone, taro nigiri, etc). they love their sushis for sure because they regularly eat there ! as for me, i didn’t find the chop scallop and tuna spicy enough but it was pretty filling. the pricing is the same as honour roll and i found it even more decent than honour roll but hearing what happens behind the scene makes me think twice about going there again.

my overall ratings are as follows:

ambiance: 5.5/10
service: 5/10 (mixed reviews)
food (taste & appearance): 7/10
value: 8.5/10

total: 6.5/10★

in conclusion, i would not frequent sushi garden.

the VCB people brought me to the newly opened sushi garden at north burnaby. i know i stated that i’ll never head to sushi garden again but since it’s of different location, i shall not give this place a miss ! there were 9 of us so we had to wait for 10 minutes to get a table. the waiter wanted us to sit separately but it was impossible for us as we knew that there is a way for us to sit together. in the end, we were the one telling the waiter how we can sit together. what was worst was the female waitress pulled a long face serving us. on the other hand, the male waiter was very patient with our request to take a group photo or serve us water.

rainbow roll – CAN$5.95

i found the name pretty interesting so i went about to order it without any doubts of questions. boy was i surprised when i saw my rolls topped up with different raw seafood and the inner layer filled with avocado, egg and cheese that basically melts in your mouth. firstly, this dish is really filling even before i had the other two cones. secondly, the eye-pleasing presentation represents the name very well. thirdly, the delicate flavors of the different fresh raw seafood complements each other.

ratings: 4/5★

chopped scallop cone – CAN$3.50

i absolutely love the texture of the small scallions. although there is excessive mayonnaise, the chopped scallop cone is much more fresh than the spicy tuna roll. it is just average though.

ratings: 2.8/5★

spicy tuna roll – CAN$2.95

i have lots to complain about this. the tuna is too soft and a far cry from the chopped scallop. it is also not as spicy as requested. a major failure overall.

ratings: 1.5/5★

my overall ratings are as follows:

ambiance: 7.5/10 (not convenient by foot but good seating arrangements)
service: 5.5/10 (what’s life without waitresses who presents a sulky face all day long ? kudos to the waiter though)
food (taste & appearance): 5.53/10 (boo to some of their food)
value: 8/10 (value for money ! same pricing as honour roll but of higher quality)

total: 6.63/10★

in conclusion, visit this restaurant for their unique sushi dishes !

sushi! it makes me feel like driving over to a nearby sushi shop to eat now! raw salmon, sashimi, sushi, raw tuna *finger lickin good!* i would like to have a go at the rainbow roll tooooo …. :(

  • Jem says:

Sushi Garden @ 4635 Kingsway does NOT serve AYCE. Please edit your post because you made false accusations.

“just a sidenote: from what i’ve heard from a friend of mine, her friend who is working there told us that if there were any leftovers which are untouched from people who had ” all you can eat “, it will be served to new customers instead of throwing the sushis away. HOW ATROCIOUS IS THAT ?!”

Also most AYCE places charge you for leftovers.

    • admin says:

i’m sorry but i did not make false accusations. a friend working at sushi garden said that leftover food will be used to serve new customers and please allow me to refresh your memory ? i did not mention anything about charges ?

  • Jem says:

people who had ” all you can eat “

    THat is what you wrote!

Sushi Garden never ever offered ALL YOU CAN EAT

So you are wrong about them re-serving foods.

    • admin says:

whether it is an all you can eat service or not, they do in fact re-serve food ! and when you wrote ” Also most AYCE places charge you for leftovers. “, it does not make sense because i’ve written NOTHING about that.

  • Jem says:

Sushi Garden does not re-serve food! Because people take their leftovers home -.-.

So your “friend” may be right about some other restaurant but she is WRONG about sushi garden reserving food.

And I wrote that AYCE charges for leftovers BECAUSE you claimed that food leftover at AYCE restaurants are re-served. This is impossible because if you have AYCE leftover food you are CHARGED regular price for it and they pack it for you to go.

Get your facts straight please before writing something with NO SUBSTANCE. Your accusation is false.

Sushi Garden has an excellent reputation in serving decent fresh sushi at low cost. You do not have to accuse them of falsely serving leftovers to other patrons. This DOES NOT happen and to write something so UNTRUE in your blog makes your blog lose credibility.
