CLEAN EATING #6 – Blackberry Blueberry Banana Smoothie Recipe
Things have been pretty hectic lately as I had to follow up with the hepatologists for my uncle in Singapore, work on putting on braces, getting my driver’s license and just completing everything that I ever procrastinated. Thus, the lack of updates. However, on days that I am rushing out for an interview or to the hospital, I am glad that I managed to have a hearty and healthy breakfast on the go. This can only be done if you prepare it the day before.
So, on day 5 of my clean eating program last month, I came up with another recipe for my smoothie. Let me take you on my clean eating journey for that day! The above pictures show the ingredients I used and the measurements for each ingredient.
I basically put everything together and blend it until the right consistency:
- 1 cup of almond milk
- 1/2 cup of honey yogurt
- 2 cups of frozen blackberries (fresh but kept in freezer)
- 1 fresh banana
- 1/2 cup of fresh blueberry
- 1 tablespoon of rolled oats
- 1 tablespoon of sunflower seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon of chia seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon of red quinoa
After which, I topped the smoothie with:
- 1 biscuit of weetabix
- 1 tablespoon of goji berries
- 1/2 teaspoon of bee pollen
The following is a summary of the benefits of the ingredients that I chose:
- almond milk is low in its glycemic index so the body uses the carbs as energy and the sugars will not be stored as fats
- greek yogurt contains protein, calcium and probiotics
- blackberries comprises of dietary fiber, vitamin C, vitamin K and manganese
- banana is high in potassium and thus, helps to thin the blood, preventing blood pressure from being too high
- blueberry has antibiotics by blocking bacteria in the urinary tract, thereby preventing infections
- rolled oats contains a specific type of fiber called beta-flucan that helps to lower cholesterol levels
- sunflower seeds prevents cholesterol build up and assist the liver’s detoxing capabilities
- chia seeds absorb the liquid as it soaks in the juice overnight and thus, the “chia gel” can hydrate the body
- red quinoa is a great source of protein as it contains all essential amino acid, making it a complete protein
- weetabix is a good source of fiber and iron, which can increase mass of stool and essential for hemoglobin production respectively.
- goji berries comprises of natural anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal compounds, which boost the immune system.
- bee pollen consists have an anti-inflammatory effect on tissues of the lungs
I hope this helps!! In the next food diary of my clean eating journey, I will post about something a little more different so watch this space!
