After many failed appointments with Angel, we finally met in mid August 2011 to have high tea at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. Mind you, we have been booking appointments but canceling them last minute since April 2011 due to our hectic schedules. Thank goodness, we finally managed to meet before I left Vancouver for Singapore.

For starters, here is a VLOG about 900 West Lounge:

Fairmont Hotel Vancouver’s Tea at the Castle – 900 West Lounge

The host was very friendly even though we were 15 minutes late. Thank goodness we called in to inform them that  we will be late. The male server was very professional and friendly. He slowly explained the types of teas to us and also gave us names of each pastries and sandwiches in an elegant manner. He even took two pictures for us, just in case it is not to our liking. The place basically has a very Victorian style.

1st picture – The menu for the selection of teas.

2nd picture – I chose the ice wine as recommended by the server. The ice wine does not contain alcohol. Instead, it consist of white grape flavor with tinge of some exotic fruit. I do not really enjoy the taste of it unless I put lots of sugar and milk in it. It tastes pretty bland as opposed to sweet like what the server suggested.

ratings: 2.8/5★

As for Angel, she had the Maple Maple, which tastes a WHOLE lot better ! It has a caramel flavor already so not much sugar and milk need to be added.  I prefer Angel’s Maple Maple to my ice wine anytime !

ratings: 4/5★

3rd picture – The exquisite display of the cup of sugar and milk.

4th picture – The two-tiered high tea set filled with delicious pastries and sandwiches.

BOTTOM TIER

1st picture – As usual we started from the bottom tier before working our way to the top. I cannot consume desserts before savory food. That’s like a huge NO NO for me.

2nd picture features the warm mini croissant filled with Maple Ham, which is flaky and one of the best sandwiches of the lot – really appetizing ! It also has Brie Cheese and Djon Mustard, which enhances it’s taste a lot more. Too bad I could finish it with just one mouthful.

ratings: 4.5/5★

3rd picture shows the fresh west coast smoked salmon with dark rye and a cucumber is sandwiched between it. The smoked salmon is pretty salty probably because of the dill cream cheese added to it. I prefer the one in Adonia. Also, the dark rye bread is a little too tough for my liking.

ratings: 2.8/5★

4th picture - The egg salad is something I look forward to during every high tea session but this time, it is just average. The french baguette is really dry and the eggs do not taste fresh as well.

ratings: 2/5★

5th picture – The watercress, green onions and cucumber sandwich is just fine. I’m not a fan of cucumbers and watercress, just so you know.

ratings: 2.8/5★

TOP TIER

1st picture – I always love looking at displays of desserts as it brightens my day ! Really like how they place their desserts and I really want to learn how to do it.

2nd picture highlights the mini passion fruit pastry swan, which is really mouthwatering to me. Angel does not like it though so she gave me her share. So speechless after tasting their pastry swan.

ratings: 3.5/5★

3rd picture – Angel and I were too full to consume the freshly baked raisin scones that are served with devonshire clotted cream fresh, strawberries and berry preserve (4th picture) so we took it to go. I refrigerated the scones and it became so hard but it is still as good, especially when it is coated with the icing sugar. I did not try the strawberries and berry preserve even though I brought it home though so no comments for that.

ratings: 3/5★

5th picture – Angel and I also took the mini cheesecake to go. This is one of their best desserts of the lot ! Indeed, fairmont lives up to it’s reputation for their famous cheesecake. It is cheesecake coated with jelly on top and topped with raspberry and chocolate. So good and orgasmic !

ratings: 4/5★

6th picture – The mini eclairs are above average but I was too bloated to appreciate the yummy eclairs !

ratings: 3.5/5★

THE BILL

Usually, Fairmont high tea charges CAN$36 per person but due to the coupon I bought from deal find, it is CAN$36 for 2 pax. So in the end, the total bill came up to CAN$15 inclusive of tips and tax. Totally forgot to take photo of the receipt though.

My overall ratings are as follows:

Ambiance: 8/10
Service: 9.5/10
Food (taste & appearance): 6.58/10
Value: 6.5/10

Total: 7.65/10★

In conclusion, you can rest assured that you will feel like royalty dining at 900 West Lounge. Their service is IMPECCABLE !
