pagiliacci's

this entry is long overdue so correct me if i have any mistakes on the pastas’ names and such. 2 months back, i went to victoria with kenny, oscar, clara and christina. we were famished by the time we arrived at downtown of victoria by car because before that we ventured out to a beautiful heritage bed and breakfast and a local market. i will write more about that in another entry !

i came to pagliacci’s with high expectations as it is highly raved in the food community. it is one of the best restaurants serving pastas and i saw many awards at their entrance door. however, i did not have time to snap a shot about it. we were starving like what i said. i love the service at pagliacci’s. initially, i ordered a pasta that was served in half-portion. when i found out how small the portion was, i decided to get full instead. the server was very flexible about it and decided to get me another half-portioned pasta. it looked way more than the original full portion. all servers served with a genuine smile and i am thankful to have gone there.

1st and 2nd pictures - for starters, we were served with complimentary bagels with butter and jam.  kenny could not stop eating the bagels as he commented that it was so good! oscar and the rest ate it as well and they enjoyed it as much. for me, the bagel was oily but that explains why it tastes nice.

3rd picture – kenny ordered ” sunday in the park with george “, which is a pasta dish that changes every sunday. kenny got the full portion for CAN$13. it is linguine with red onions, portabella mushrooms, roasted garlic, spinach in a marsala cream sauce and fotina. kenny claimed that his dish was the best amongst the rest of us. i did not believe it until i tried it and i realized that the marsala cream sauce is the factor that made the dish tastes delicious. it is creamy and slightly brown in color and it gives the dish a marsala aroma and flavor since it is made from dry marsala wine, butter and cream. after trying the meal, i agree that kenny’s dish is one of the best amongst us.

ratings: 5/5★

4th picture – christina had the half portion of ” my secret garden ” for CAN$10. it is a vegetarian linguine topped with fontina cheese and filled with mushrooms and fresh tomatoes. the mushrooms and tomatoes are marinated with  red wine vinegar, olive oil, garlic and fresh basil. i have forgotten the taste of it but it was definitely better than my dish.

5th picture – oscar had ” the roman holiday ” for full portion at CAN$13. the pasta dish consisted of linguine, mushrooms, onions, bacon, egg, fontina cheese and parsley. he claim that this is one of the best pasta places he ever went to. it beats both spaghetti factory and olive garden HANDS DOWN !

6th picture – “ il postino always rings twice ” was what clara ordered. she had the half portion for CAN$10. it is another vegetarian pasta that comprised of spinach and cheese ravioli, sundried tomato fresh herb pesto cream sauce with asiago cheese. it was quite dense for me so i did not quite like it.

i foolishly did not take a picture of my dish because i was too busy taking picture of the rest of the dishes. what i got was the full portion of the “ hemingway short story ” for CAN$13. honestly, i regretted ordering my dish as the tortellinis stuffed with beef, parmesan, cottage and mozzarella cheese are too dense for me. i found my dish the worst in terms of taste and texture. it is really dry even though it is covered bacon, green onions in cream sauce.

ratings: 2/5★

THE BILL
