#147 Sophie’s Cosmic Cafe @ West 4th, Vancouver [EDITED]
I have heard of Sophie’s Cosmic Cafe from many UBC students and have been dying to head there to try their pancake. It so happens that this cafe is opened by my sister’s boyfriend’s relative or something as well! Since Sophie’s is located near UBC, I would love to dine there for breakfast before classes. However, that NEVER happen as I have a bad habit of being late for classes. So anyway, I managed to head to Sophie’s this time when I head back to Vancouver for a vacation. After the day I met Theresa for Jethro’s Fine Grub, we decided to have brunch again but this time at Sophie’s!

Sophie’s is a really cool and casual place. It has garage decorations and a very retro outlook! It is really comfortable dining there and what more do you look for when you are dining happily with your friend? Comfort! The servers there are very friendly and serving their customers to the best of their abilities. The drawings for the mat is also very adorable – totally unbearable to have food droppings on it!
Theresa recommended the Strawberry Milk Shake for us to share. It costs CAD$6.29 and it was TOTALLY WORTH THE COSTS! Usually for a glass of milk shake, it is supposed to be one glass right? But in North America, Milk Shake is always 1.5-2 glasses and so, we had A LOT to share! The Milkshake is made with REAL strawberry ice-cream and the taste is totally TO DIE FOR! I kept slurping even though I kept stopping myself as I would like to enjoy my pancakes. However, it is totally irresistible – Sense the freshness?

1st & 2nd pictures – I wanted to get other french toasts/pancakes options but I got myself the Deluxe Buttermilk Pancakes because I was so hungry! When I am starving, I have to consume savoury food before eating sweet items. So I opted for sausages at the side and pancakes without whipped cream, which costs CAD$10.99. To my surprise, I had 2 HUGE pancakes topped with icing sugar with 3 mini sausages. I could only finish the 3 sausages and HALF a pancake since I am accustom to the Asian portion after being in Singapore for 6 months. I took the rest to go. However, I really enjoyed the pancake as it was light and fluffy! The sausages were just average. I would totally head back to Sophie’s to try their other food items!

3rd & 4th pictures – Theresa got the Eggs Benedicts, which also costs CAD$10.99. I really love eggs benedicts because of the poached eggs melting in your mouth and the hollandaise sauce enhances it’s taste. However, I have been trying to cut down on my cholesterol intake so I did not get that. Theresa changed the side dish from fries to hash brows. She enjoyed the sauce a lot and said it was really filling!
The total bill came up to CAD$28.27 without HST tax and CAD$31.66 with tax. Totally forgot how much we gave the inclusive of tips but definitely 15%.

I went to Sophie’s Cosmic Cafe for brunch with Mich before my FNH 355 class on a Monday afternoon. Guess what? As Sophie’s Cosmic Cafe closes at 2:30pm, we managed to reach there a minute before their last order! The server was very engaged in conversing with us and she recommended how I can pair my savoury food with a piece of pancake if I like. She was also very genuine and does not act like she is doing her job just for the sake of it!
1st-3rd pictures – I wanted to try their Eggs Mexicana so I got it for CAD$11.99! It comes with egg scramble filled with green peppers and sausage and the others are the following: black beans, a slice of toast cut in two, tortillas and tortilla chips with salsa and sour cream for better taste. The black beans was starchy but does not make you want to puke. The egg scramble is not too bad but a little on the salty side. I could not finish the food as there are too much carbohydrates in the dish but the food is gratifying! Thus, I took the remaining to go!

4th & 5th pictures – Mich had the Eggs Benedicts, which she enjoyed a lot!
6th picture – I got one side pancake because I was craving for their pancakes but I had to take it to go as well as I could not finish even half of the pancake! It still tastes as good as the first time I tried it – Very simple, not much toppings but oh-so-delicious!
7th & 8th pictures – I was craving for the Strawberry Milkshake again so I recommended it to Mich and she was jubilant after trying it! She came saying that she will be trying to make it when she gets home!
My total cost was CAD$17.91, excluding tips so I topped 15% for tips. Mich was so sweet to give me a treat for the Strawberry Milkshake! Mich really enjoyed her meal at Sophie’s and would like to come back again! [/EDIT]
