#35 new finds along robson street
i was so excited for my brother to meet up with my friends so i invited fae and mike to join us for lunch at downtown. my brother crashed my FNH 350 class that day and he found it such a bore. it so happens that my bro, fae and mike’s birthdays fall on the same day – 15th february, coolness ! since my brother was craving for korean cuisine for lunch, i decided to bring him to nor boo. the initial plan was e-hwa but since the weather was freezing cold and we alighted at the wrong bus stop, nor boo was the next resort.

there were no customers at 2pm and the waitress failed to be the least bit attentive. she forgot to give us the side dishes (kimchi, etc), small plates and sauce for both the seafood pancake and bibimbap. i’ve no idea why many of my indonesian friends frequent this place. i feel like the place did not look typically clean. it just gave me an uncomfortable feeling.
seafood pancake – CAN$8.99
the seafood pancake is so small and thin as compared to other korean restaurants. there are reasonable amount of fillings though. my brother was very satisfied with the dish. as long as he is happy, so am i. the seafood filling did not taste as fresh as other seafood pancakes i’ve tried but it is still fine to eat them as it is not too bad.
ratings: 2.8/5★
crispy spicy chicken – CAN$3.99
the crispy chicken was quite salty but the chili made up for it’s saltiness. i think this was my brother’s favorite dish from the restaurant since he loves fried chickens since young.
ratings: 3/5★
we also had the seafood bibimbap (which cost CAN$8.99) since my brother couldn’t eat beef. i was shock to find the seafood bibimbap COLD ! the food in nor boo is not as good as ehwa and other korean restaurants i went to. i have no idea why so many of my friends even go there. the price is certainly too pricey for it’s quality. mike gave the restaurant a total rating of 7/10★ though.
the bill
the bill came up to a total of CAN$24.61 and we paid a CAN$28, which is generous enough since the service is so bad.

in conclusion, nor boo is OVERRATED !

+ + + +
as desserts are essentials for the aftermath of my meals, i wanted to bring the crew to la bretagne crepe. instead, we came across michi waffle and espresso bar so we decided to try something new.

i entered the cafe being very impressed with the many types of waffles they have. the barista was being really polite when i did not pronounce the words properly. he was also very patient when each of us took a long time to choose what we wanted. the cafe is really a good place to chill out and drink coffee or tea on a freezing cold winter day. fae, mike and my brother gave the ambiance a rating of 7/10.
there were too many choices for me to decide which waffle combo i wanted so the barista recommend me the chocolate lover combo because i was craving for chocolates. it was a brussel waffle with one scoop of chocolate fudge gelato and another scoop of tiramisu gelato decorated oreo cookie and topped with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle. everyone agreed that my combo is the best amongst all that we ordered.
ratings: 4/5★
mochi waffle – CAN$3
my brother had the mochi waffle since he was already quite full and didn’t want to eat much. he claim that it is not particularly special or anything. he gave a rating of 2.5/5★
chocolate drizzle waffle – CAN$4
mike and fae shared a brussels waffle coated with icing sugar and chocolate drizzle. they did not like their waffle either. they said a scoop of gelato will make up for it so i shared two scoops of my gelato with them. everything taste yummy when topped with gelato, ain’t it ? anyways, they gave their waffle a rating of 2/5★
12 oz london fog – CAN$3.45
my brother and i shared a cup of 12oz london fog and it was really needed for the freezing temperature. my brother, who usually doesn’t drink coffee or tea like it too. i’m very glad my brother is willing to try food that i bring him to. you definitely cannot comprehend the happiness i feel in me.

in conclusion, i would choose michi waffle and espresso bar over the typical starbucks/blenz ANYTIME !
