Manpuku

I have not been back to Singapore for about 3 years so I was pretty surprised that Tampines MRT station has yet another newly built shopping mall nearby – Tampines One. Originally, there were two shopping malls located next to Tampines MRT Station – Tampines Mall and Century Square. So I finally got the chance to visit Tampines One when I hung out with my mother and brother. My brother and mother brought me to Tampines Mall so that I can fix my cellphone line with M1. After which, my mother went home and my brother brought me on a tour to Tampines One. One thing that caught my eye was the Japanese Food Court – Manpuku. So I decided to head in to snap many shots of the adorable decorations.

1st and 2nd pictures – When you first walk into Manpuku, you will first be greeted by the Fruit Tart Shop – Fruit Paradise. Fruit Paradise sells 10 different fruit tarts that are decorated very beautifully by the Japanese chef. My stomach is growling just by looking at the appetizing fruit tarts.

3rd to 7th pictures – I realized that in Singapore, no matter how the tastes of the food is, if the food stall is located in a mall, especially a newly built mall, the cafe/restaurant/food court will look exceptionally captivating ! With the Japanese characters prints and photo frames filled with photos  all over the walls of the food court, petite curtains and windows and pseudo cherry blossom trees and bamboo sticks decorations, the food court portrays a Japanese atmosphere.

The 8th picture shows  a shop by the name of ” Sesson Japanese Grill – 雪村 “. Charbroiling food is a form of art so in this shop, the chefs charbroils their signature dish, Unagi in front of their customers. This shop is famous for their skewers but I have yet to try their food.

9th to 13th pictures – There are more Japanese decorations such as covers of Japanese barrels scripted with Japanese characters, Japanese barrels filled with artificial fruits, displays of Japanese mojitos and Ajisen’s dorayaki (どら焼き) and wall drawings and writings of Japanese ingredients and words respectively.

The 14th picture represents Aji-Tei, which offers a fusion of Japanese and Western cuisines. The food they serve ranges from eggplant and tofu gratin to Tan Tan gyoza to Pineapple Chicken Pizza. However, I have not tried their food yet so I have no say in this.

There are 7 other food stalls that I have not described as I did not take a picture of it. One of which is called AOBA Hokkaido Asahikawa Ramen. The cashier was pretty unfriendly and did not do anything except take down my order and gave me my food. On my second visit to Manpuku with Henry, I had the Shio Ramen (SGD$6.50). The shio ramen is basically salt-based noodles with cha shu (bbqed pork), seaweed, strips of cabbages and bamboo shoots in pork broth. I found the dish too salty for my liking. The noodle wasn’t fantastic either. The food is below average and Vivian even stated that the standard has dropped.

In conclusion, Manpuku is such an irresistible place to hang out and chill but the ramen is below average. I will come back for their desserts or other savory food another day.
