I don’t know when it happened and how it happened but I am pretty amazed with the cafe scene in Asia right now. I was very surprised when there are cafes at every corner in Seoul when I went there in January 2013. When I came back to Singapore for good on New Year’s Day last year, many cafes popped up not only in town area but also in heartland areas. As of now, I know about 4 cafes around my neighborhood at Bedok Reservoir. As I head to Jakarta every now and then, I see that the cafe culture scene is slowly catching up in Jakarta as well!

After visiting my paternal grandpa in the cemetery on Christmas day last year, my dad brought me to the nearest mall to my grandma’s crib, Puri Mall. He tried Mr Pancake before so obviously, he brought me there to have pancakes. My intimate family members, except for my mum and brother, love brunch dishes such as pancakes, eggs benedicts and such. Like many of the cafes, Mr Pancake has a cute interior decorated with soft toys, pseudo flowers, campfire place and Christmas socks. The lights used also beautifies the place and makes it a cozy cafe to chill at, especially with such comfortable chairs.
I was so bored of fruity pancakes so I got myself Coffee Cream Cookies for a change. The pancake costs 35,000 Rupiah (CAD$3.33 / USD$2.78 / SGD$3.69) is served with coffee ice cream and topped with grated cheese, whipped cream and crushed oreo. This is relatively cheap as compared to pancakes served in Singapore (SGD$13 in Strictly Pancakes), Los Angeles (USD$6.79 in Denny’s) and Vancouver (CAD$13 in Jethro’s Fine Grub). I always compare Western food in other countries with these three countries because I stayed in these places for quite a long time. Unfortunately, I made the wrong choice and the pancake I ordered was not even good that I could not even finish it. The coffee ice-cream melted so rapidly and the pancakes were not even that fluffy to begin with. My dad told me that the fruity flavours were much better than the ones I ordered so maybe I will give this place a try if I have time in the future.

Although the place is pretty, I cannot say the same for the food there. I am willing to give this place a second chance though. I have another awesome pancake place to recommend my readers in the next entry!
