Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market 노량진수산시장

Since my volunteer was at Hyangjin Orphanage in Incheon, I decided to stop at Noryangjin station and head to the Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market, which is on the way to my home at Gangnam. I love going to wet markets because I love things the traditional way. Technology has advanced so much that many simple and traditional places such as wet markets have transformed to modern grocery stores with no originality and vibe. Although I love technology, I am still hanging on to places and items from the past. Enough said about the transformation of places. Let us get back to the topic of Noryangjin Fisheries Market!

I was amazed by the amount of LIVE seafood I saw at the Fisheries Market. It really opened my eyes at how much Noryangjin Fisheries Market has to offer. One cool thing abut Korean wet market is that you get to dine at a restaurant after purchasing your live seafood and the chef will cook it for you. However, you need at least more than one pax to do so or they will even charge you  “entrance” fee. The lady in charge was screaming at me because I was by myself and all I got was sashimi. The people working at the wet market were relatively nicer though. Since there were no where I could dine, I found a food court near Noryangjin station and ate my sashimi there! As I was snapping shots of my sashmi, a Korean girl opposite also quietly stole a shot of my meal due to it’s appetizing look! Not only is it appealing to the eyes but it is also very fresh and tasty! Although this is incomparable to Vancouver’s sashimi, the quality is sufficient in Asia. Vancouver’s sashimi is thicker while Korea’s sashimi is thinner. I forgot how much I paid for it but it should probably be 10,000 won (~ USD$9.71 / CAD$10.66 / SGD$12.13) -Definitely value for money since sashimi in Asia is so expensive!
