Sushiholic

It was the eve of New Year Eve and my last few days in Vancouver before heading to Korea for a month and to other countries for the remaining months before my graduation ceremony. So, it was a good time to meet up with some old folks before I leave Vancouver for gazillion times. Since sushi is my ultimate favorite food at Vancouver and Sushiholic seems to have all the hype at that period of time, I decided to have dinner with a few people from HFAN there.

I only got to know about Sushiholic through friends and social media because once someone in the community goes, everyone else will be heading to that restaurant as well. It works like that if you have such a community. I live quite far away from Sushiholic so for me, if I ever pass by Sushiholic and know nothing about it, I will never walk into the restaurant because of it’s ordinary outlook. The restaurant is very small and if there are many customers, there will be a mad rush for the servers. However, we managed to get the servers to snap shots for us. It is best for take outs if you find the restaurant too claustrophobic for your liking. For the nine of us, we managed to fit one table feeling quite comfortable.

We shared a couple of items namely Seafood Salad (1st & 2nd pictures), Sushiholic Roll (3rd & 4th pictures), Red Roll (5th & 6th pictures), Las Vegas Roll (7th-9th pictures) and Volcano Roll (10th-13th pictures). The Seafood Salad costs CAD$9.95 and I really enjoyed the raw seafood in it as it is very fresh. I am not much of a salad fan but with sashimi inside, I think I can handle it. Sushiholic Roll comprises of avocado, spicy tuna, crab meat, prawn tempura and cucumber and the rice is coated with smoked salmon, which complements instantly. It costs CAD$7.95 for 6 pieces and although this sushi is rather bland (despite being the name of the restaurant) as compared to the other sushi dishes.  The Red Roll has all my favorite ingredients in it namely chopped scallop, spicy tuna, cucumber and mayo. It practically danced in my mouth with it’s feisty combination. The Las Vegas Roll is deep-fried and consists of spicy salmon, cream cheese and asparagus. The presentation is fascinating and definitely distracts you from having a bad day. Needless to say, the sushi also tastes heavenly! The highlight of the night is the Volcano Roll. However, I have a hate/love relationship with this dish as the amount of cream cheese is far too much that anyone can bear. This is a spicy tuna and tuna sashimi roll with cream cheese, cucumber and asparagus. Words fail me as I slowly munch on the sushi we had.
