#484 肥仔文美食 @ Taipa, Macau

Posted by swisscheese on December 9, 2017 in crab porridge, macau, porridge |

My trips to Macau are always so short because I went to Macau from Hong Kong for a 2D1N trip and day trip in 2013 and 2014 respectively. However, as I was accompanying my grandma, first aunt, fifth uncle & her wife to Macau for a 4D3N trip back in February, I finally had a chance to fully experience the Asian version of “Las Vegas”! Since my cousin from my mother’s side is residing in Macau, she took me out the entire day on my second day at Macau.

As my cousin has been staying in Macau for many years, she knows a lot of places such as the 大潭山 / Tai Tam Mountain and 黑沙海灘 / Hac Sa Beach that only locals go to. So we had a fruitful morning hiking at the mountain and beach before trying Portuguese / Macanese food at 海灣咖啡屋 / Café Litoral and roaming the streets of Taipa and Senado Square. After buying numerous delicious unique and non-commercialised cookies for souvenirs and as night falls, my cousin and her roommate brought me to have the crab porridge that only locals go to usually. If I walked past this restaurant as shown in the first picture above, I would not know that the food served there tastes like heaven! We ordered the 水蟹粥 / Crab Porridge蝦醬通菜牛 / Stir-Fried Beef and Vegetables with Shrimp Paste, 薑汁炒芥蘭 / Kale with Ginger, 椒鹽粟米 / Seasoned Corn  and 椒鹽九肚魚/ Seasoned Fish. The signature dish is the crab porridge and that explains why the customers sitting at every table will definitely order that dish. It is indeed very mouthwatering but I enjoyed the seasoned corn and fish fillet the most! Firstly, you can consume the corn easily as it is already cut into pieces for you. Secondly, the corn is seasoned with salt, pepper, spice and everything nice. The spices on the fish fillet tastes so gratifying too! Both the seasonings of the corn and fish fillet complements the taste of the plain porridge very well. Moreover, the fish melts in your mouth when eaten hot. It is that soft and I found that to be the highlight of the meal. The vegetable dishes were just average for me as I am also not a fan of Chinese beef dishes. Although the food was again too much to finish, it was much lighter than the dense Macanese / Portugese food we had that afternoon.

I would totally recommend this restaurant out of all the touristy food places that tourists usually line up for at Macau as both the place and food really brings out the authentic feel and taste.
