after our samurai sushi date, gigi and i went grocery shopping for 4 hours at t&t and superstore two saturday nights ago. it was fun but we wanted to eat something sweet after that so gigi introduced to me an amazing place close to both her workplace and home. she told me it was a new restaurant but the food is awesome. what’s best ? she knows the owners !

nana dumplings and bubble tea house

nana dumplings and bubble tea house is a simple restaurant with absolutely no decorations on the wall. the restaurant only consist of adorable drawings on the exterior to attract passerbys. the owners are still pretty new but they are trying their best. the owners are so friendly and they even gave us a free dessert dish. they kept asking for our opinions and they are willing to change when gigi was brutally honest with them.

1st – 3rd pictures – the osmanthus jelly (CAN$4.50) has a fragrant aroma that brings out a cooling sweet taste. it is a free dessert dish from the owner so we do not have to pay for it. i love how they put the condensed milk at the side so that we can mix it if we like to. i like how the condensed milk complements with the osmanthus jelly. on the other hand, gigi does not like blending the condensed milk with the osmanthus jelly. she prefer to eat it solo. we had the osmanthus jelly the last so it gives us a refreshing taste from all the sweetness from the previous two desserts.

4th picture – i ordered the fruit in sago soup, which costs CAN$4.50. the owner was so generous with the amount and variety of fruits they put in the sago soup. there were many slices of bananas and oranges in the sago soup but the top is filled with beautiful slices of strawberries, cherry and whipping cream. the sago soup consist of tonnes of sagos and fresh milk. i love the way they present the dessert and it is definitely one of a kind !

ratings: 4.5/5★

5th & 6th pictures – gigi had the  coconut milk with black glutinous rice for CAN$4.99. it has the same amount and diversity of fruits as the fruit in sago soup. however, it consist of coconut milk instead of fresh milk and black glutinous rice instead of sago. gigi did not enjoy it as much as i did so she shared it with me. it is definitely my cup of tea but it is way sweeter than the fruit in sago soup.

milton, frans and i were thinking of going somewhere to have dinner or desserts but we didn’t want to go to our usual honolulu cafe. so i decided to introduce nana dumplings and bubble tea house to them. i walked into the restaurant being so amazed by the change in appearance from a plain diner with no decorations at all to the following pictures:

what a big transformation from nothing to many simple yet beautiful wall stickers that are pasted meticulously by the owners. they even had professional pictures of their food and beverages pasted at the entrance. there were also a lot more customers when we went there at 8pm. previously, it was only gigi and i dining there. the owners were very friendly to my friends as they kept engaging into conversations with them.

1-4 & 6th pictures – i ordered the crispy chicken with noodles and the set was presented differently from other restaurants. the owners separated the noodles from the soup and had kimchi, crispy drumsticks and vegetables as side dishes. i like how soft the noodles are and the soup was also very light. however, the chicken was a little tough and the kimchi is just average. the vegetable is not bad though. it has enough sauce and such !

ratings: 3/5★

5th picture – milton had the fruits shaved ice as he already had dinner. it consisted of mango, watermelon and banana with ice at the bottom. milton found it plain and very normal so he did not really enjoy it.

7th picture – i ordered the mango sago soup with lots of sour red fruit (i totally forgot the name of it, my bad !). i believe that nana dumplings and bubble tea house should focus more on their desserts as it is their selling points. their desserts are always presented very uniquely and consist of many ingredients. the mango sago soup does not taste as sweet as other desserts i have tasted, which portrays that they have a balance catered for health conscious people. the mango sago soup was thick as they used fresh mangos for the base of it.

ratings: 5/5★

8th picture – frans drank mocha bubble tea for his first glass and honey milk tea for his second glass. milton tried a sip of his bubble tea as well. both milton and frans did not quite like the bubble tea though. they said it is just average and that they have tried better ones.

** in case you don’t already know, nana dumpling and bubble tea house is allowing refillable bubble tea at anytime during summer ! you are able to change the flavor of your drink when you refill your bubble tea as well. moreover, there is wifi there so why not choose that as your studying cafe in your next visit ?
