[AIRBNB] The Summer Place @ Jelutong, Penang

The Summer Place

I went to Penang with my brother, his girlfriend and her childhood friends in May this year. Never did I imagine to go to Penang again two weekends later with my childhood friend (Crystal). Since I stayed at Armenian Hotel on my first trip there, I suggested to stay at an airbnb on my second trip to Penang. Thankfully, Crystal was willing to try it out with me as well. We browsed through a couple of homes before deciding to stay at Norm’s crib.

We arrived at Penang on Friday, the 15th of May 2015. Initially, we wanted our host to pick us up from the airport for RM40. However, Norm could not provide airport pick up towards the date as he has to prepare our rooms for us. We ended up taking taxi from the airport to Norm’s home. Thankfully, he gave us his number so that we could contact him when we have reached his condo and he could also inform us the unit number to press for us to head up to his unit. We were greeted by his shoe rack topped with beautiful greenery, as depicted in the first picture, when we were at his door step. Since Norm was at work that morning, the person who opened the door for us was his wife. Since we were too early to check in, she gave us some tips on how to commute around the area. She told us to download the Malaysia’s version of Grab Taxi (MyTeksi) and that came in handy when we wanted to go to Georgetown and back home that day. I did not take the time to admire the beautiful home until we returned back to the apartment that night and the day after. The second to eighth pictures show the beautifully decorated living room and the remaining three photos portrays the neat kitchen, where Norm took time to engage in long conversations with us on our first night.

While Crystal was not feeling well and resting on the second day of our trip, I went to appreciate the breeze in the cozy balcony. I believe that I am able to read a book and stay here all day and that would make a great recuperation from work! I love how you have a view of the sea and Penang bridge (1st and 2nd pictures) from your home and you will be able to catch the sunrise or sunset easier this way.

Our bedroom was so comfortable to sleep in. We were so happy to have our own bathroom as Crystal was suffering from food poisoning on the second day and she went in and out of the bathroom quite a number of times. While Crystal was rejuvenating from his sickness, I was reading a book at the area filled with pillows near the window (5th & 6th pictures) and it felt so good to rest in like that. I love how Norm and his wife decorated the home with lots of plants making it look lively! Their house is also safe as there is an access card to enter the lift, a key for the gate of the home and a Samsung fob to unlock the door of the house (last picture). How cool is that, really?

As Crystal had a long rest, I even went downstairs to check out the swimming pool before coming up  to have my local delicacies takeaways. The condo is quite neat and safe but I believe the white minimalist theme of Norm’s apartment made the stay even better. It costs SGD$57 per night but I believe that it was worth the experience and stay.

Both Crystal and I enjoyed the place very much. Norm and his wife were both very friendly and welcoming to their guests as well! They were so understanding when the towels used had red stains as my hair was dyed red just two days before I departed. We are ever so grateful for a fantastic virgin airbnb experience!
