Basikal / Bean Cafe

Since my father and sister (Sam) have gone to visit my brother’s girlfriend’s hometown and family along with my brother and Shiling Jie in late May, my mum, sister (Bella) and I decided to pay Yong Peng a visit in late July. On the first day we took the coach from Singapore to Yong Peng. When we arrived at the bus terminal, Shiling jie’s father picked us up and brought us to eat lunch at the hotel. After which, we went to Shiling jie’s home and since the durian season was almost ending, her father was so nice to provide us with delicious durians from Klang. Next, we decided to check in our hotel and rest for an hour before Shiling brought us to Basikal Cafe.

If you did not already know, Yong Peng is a small town with an area of 1911.6 hectares. Thus, going anywhere mostly takes 15 minutes but usually takes 5 minutes or less. When Shi Ling jie drove us from the hotel to Basikal Cafe, it was only a 3 minutes drive. We immediately ran into the cafe since the weather was insanely hot and humid! From the exterior (1st picture) of the cafe, you can already tell that the theme of the cafe is bicycle theme. Even as you enter the cafe, you would notice from my pictures that the interior is also decorated with bicycles near the washroom (2nd picture), corridor (3rd picture), seating area (4th picture) and even on the ceiling (15th picture)! The parts of a bicycle (9th & 14th pictures) were not forgotten as well. It is hang on the wall for display purposes. There are many other vintage items for display such as the typewriter, telephone and television. Antique Chinese old school looking mini doors were also hung or on the ceiling for decorating purposes. These decorations gave the cafe a rustic look.

After being so engrossed with the interior of the cafe, we decided to order our desserts. 5 of us shared a huge slice of Rainbow Cake and a flowerpot of Bonsai Moose Cake, which cost RM7.90 and RM7.50 respectively. I seldom buy beverages whenever I dine outside as I love drinking water to quench my thirst. However, I got a cup of Ice Blended Green Tea Choc for RM11.99 to try. My other siblings and mum tried other drinks. We found the rainbow cake very bland as it has a creamy flavour but nothing fantastic. The Bonsai Moose Cake tastes better but the ones served at Banana Tree in Singapore is a lot better! The beverages were overly sweet but can’t help it as these were pre packaged drinks. Since Yong Peng is Shiling Jie’s hometown, she was so nice to treat us with so much hospitality! Kindly take note that the cafe is under self-service rule and you have to place your order and make payment at the counter prior to receiving your order on the table. The server was very patient to snap many shots for us even when we are unsatisfied though.

OPENS DAILY: 10AM-10PM;

Ambiance: 7.5/10
Service: 7/10
Food (taste & appearance): 6/10
Value: 6.5/10

Total: 6.75/10★

The cafe is very unique in how it is decorated but the taste of the desserts we have tried does not correlate with the beauty of the cafe. This is one of the hangout places at Yong Peng though.
