#221 Meat & Bread @ Cambie Street, Vancouver
Bella introduced Meat & Bread to me last year but since I did not like consuming burgers and sandwiches, I did not bother going to highly-raved Meat & Bread. When I came back this time, I wanted to go to Meat & Bread to try their bacon ice-cream sandwich. Wisdom and I were planning to head to Red Wagon but our plans changed when Janet told me that she was at downtown. So three of us went to Meat & Bread instead!

Janet and her sister picked me up at Burrard station and drove us to Meat & Bread. The traffic in downtown is so bad every Saturday but we managed to make it to Meat & Bread safely! Wisdom got a table for us prior to our arrival so we queued up to get our food. The line up was pretty fast due to Meat & Bread’s efficient system as there is a division in labour – some workers are cutting the bread and others are putting the ingredients on the sandwiches, some workers are pouring the soup for the customers, some workers are preparing the bacon ice-cream sandwich and there is a cashier that collects your payment and greets you with a smile.
1st & 2nd pictures – The Saturday’s Special that day was the Duck Spring Roll Sandwich, which is worth CAD$9. The sandwich consists of duck spring roll topped with sweet soy, spiced cabbage, sesame and oyster sauce and sandwiched between rectangular ciabatta loaves. I like how the food was lined with wax paper and served on a mini cutting board – how adorable! The ingredients were so juicy and luscious but the bread was quite firm and hard for me. Like I said, I am not a fan of sandwiches.

3rd picture – Janet was the only one amongst us who ordered their signature sandwiches – The Porchetta! It costs CAD$8 and comprises of dices of roasted porchetta with salsa verde sandwiched between the crusty ciabatta loaves. Janet finds her sandwich really tasty and I wish I had hers instead because of the crispy skin of the porchetta!
4th-6th pictures – Janet & I shared the Ice Cream Sandwich, which is CAD$4. The ice-cream served here is very unique as the ice-cream is maple flavoured with bits of bacon in it and it is sandwiched between two thin waffles. It has the same concept as McGriddles as the dessert is savoury yet sweet! The savoury bacon brought out the richness in the maple ice-cream. Very mouthwatering and exotic – Definitely the highlight of Meat & Bread!
