#483 Humphry Slocombe @ One Ferry Building, San Francisco

Posted by swisscheese on December 3, 2017 in diy, ice-cream, san francisco, video |

The weather of San Francisco on my first day in October this year was perfect for sleeping as it was so breezy and you will feel very comfortable just by putting on your hoodie. I was feeling so jetlag but I still went out with my fifth uncle and aunt while my cousin accompanied my grandma at the hotel. I did not know where we were going as my uncle booked lyft to travel to our destination. Unknowingly, I fell asleep on the way there but had to wake up about 10-15 minutes when we arrived at One Ferry Building.

One Ferry Building is like a marketplace as with those seen in Granville Island and Lonsdale Quay in Vancouver. However, One Ferry Building has been newly renovated so there are not many shops open on the second level and only the first floor is filled with shops selling fresh meat, touristy items such as keychains and totes bags of San Francisco and natural goodies such as essential oils and fruits, If you look at my video below, you could easily guess what caught my attention on Humphry Slocombe and the third picture says it all. Yes, it is all because  of the long lineup! This explains why the logo on the freezer in the last picture clearly states “SKIP THE LINE, GRAB & GO!” if you are running out of time. Once you look closely at the third picture that shows the customers lining up for their favourite ice-cream at Humphry Slocombe, you would have noticed the mascot of this store, which is a two-headed calf named Liza and Bianca. This is so adorable as the owner, Chef Jake Godby gave names to his mascot and even tattooed his arms with 31 ice-cream icons to show his commitment for this shop.

There are 150 non-conventional flavours that Humphry Slocombe carry and those flavours change seasonally but the all-time-favourite flavours that are highly raved and mostly ordered by customers are the Secret Breakfast, Blue Bottle Vietnamese Coffee and Tahitian Vanilla. My aunt got the Blue Bottle Vietnamese Coffee since she is a coffee lover, while my uncle ordered the Tahitian Vanilla. As for me, I decided to be adventurous and wanted to try the items shown in their “Today’s Specials” board. I was contemplating between The Leaky Cauldron and Duck Yeah! Sundae but since Halloween was around the corner, I went with The Leaky Cauldron, which consists of one scoop of Pumpkin Hazelnut ice cream, one scoop of Butter Beer ice cream topped with Marshmallow Fluff and Butterscotch. No regrets as I enjoyed how rich, fresh and intense the flavours were without the ice-cream being too milky. You can also refer to my video above to learn more about my summarised remarks for the only item I have tasted in this shop.

Opens daily:
Sunday to Friday – 11AM to 9:00PM
Saturday – 8AM to 9:00PM

It was so refreshing trying one of Food Network’s proclaimed “America’s Top Five Ice-Cream” on my first day at San Francisco, especially when the ice-cream goes well with the chilly weather.
