kenny is part of UBC’s Food Society club and is a mini leader of the CAN$20 dining team. he organized a lunch event for joey, lynette, erica, jessica and i. he read the reviews for bistro the home and thus, invited us for lunch and even taught us on skills he had learnt on table manners. i found the restaurant interesting as it serves korean pasta and pizza and people who know me should know that i love unique food. i was pretty late for the lunch event as i was having a bad diarrhea that day so i am gonna be brief on this review.

the restaurant is located pretty near to lansdowne mall so it is just a walk away. i haven’t been to the restaurant before so i had no choice but to meet joey at the mcdonalds close to sheraton hotel. little did i know that it was so close by. the exterior look like any other ordinary restaurant and the interior looks pretty dark without the natural light from outside. however, it was decorated with some pseudo tree and miniature items. the decorations look a little like borandsi cafe but is less fancyful. we were seated at a corner so it was really hard to get the server’s attention. however, she is really nice when attending to us and we even played with her adorable daughter before we left.

Bacon and Kimchi Pasta – CAN$8.50 (1st picture)
i really like how they used flavors from the heart of asia on pastas and pizzas. this dish had kimchi and smoked bacon with virgin olive oil sauce. the pasta wasn’t very spicy but the olive oil made it so delicious. it is not the highlight dish though.

ratings: 4/5★

Vongole Pasta with tomato sauce – CAN$10.50 (2nd picture)
we had a choice between tomato sauce or white wine cream sauce so the team chose tomato sauce since we had so many pastas with creamy sauce already. the pasta is served with clams and boy, was the clams fresh !! although i am not a fan of pastas with tomato sauce, this dish really wanted to prove my taste buds wrong.

ratings: 3/5★

Nero Pasta – CAN$11.75 (3rd picture)
this was the BEST dish of the afternoon !! do not be deceive by it’s unappealing looks for it is truly mouthwatering. i could not stop consuming it  despite how much black squid ink sauce i had all over my mouth. i love how the consistency of the cream is not too thick either. the calamari is sure as hell, fresh.

ratings: 5/5★

Gorgonzola Pizza (4th picture) & Bulgogi Pizza (5th picture) – CAN$8.50 each
i am not a fan of pizzas. i often eat it for the sake of eating it so i do not have much of an impression for the pizzas there. one thing for sure, it is not as thick as the western pizzas and the taste does not get bland as you have more of it.

ratings: 2.8/5★ each

Peachade (5th picture) – FREE during lunch time

the drink is mostly peach flavored but it has a touch of lemonade in it. it is truly refreshing and i even wanted another glass of it if i wasn’t eating so slowly.

the bill came up to CAN$66.36 so we paid a total of CAN$78, costing each person CAN$13/person. it’s value for money considering how many dishes we had and how much we had drink.

CASH ONLY !!

ambiance: 8.5/10
service: 9/10
food (taste & appearance): 7.53/10
value: 7.5/10

total: 8.13/10★

in conclusion, a rather unique korean restaurant that serves amazing pastas and pizzas from oriental flavors.
