Again, I am only updating during the weekends because working in Singapore is really hectic!! It is only my second week of training and I am feeling so tired as I am working ANZ timing. So I will update one (review about this Korean restaurant) or two posts (additional entry about my clean eating food) before heading out with my friends later in the afternoon.

So on day 4 of our Korea trip last January, Vivian and I went to Deoksugung Palace to witness the changing of the guards ceremony, take photos and tour around on our own. After which, we were starving so we decided to have lunch somewhere close. We saw this little restaurant while walking through the nasty ice and decided to settle here for lunch!

The restaurant is like a mini traditional Korean “house”. We had to take off our shoes the minute we enter the restaurant and sat down on the floor with our legs crossed. It is a pretty cozy restaurant as based on the materials used for the floors, doors and tables, the restaurant has a homely feel to it. It was freezing at Deoksugung Palace so we felt the warmth of the servers even though we could hardly communicate with one another. The servers are really friendly as they kept smiling at us and taking photos of us. It was really hard for them to take our orders as they did not understand our questions and vice versa so we ordered by pointing at the food pictures on the posters.

We started by ordering the 모듬보쌈, which refers to bossam. This is a huge plate of appetizer that consists of boiled and sliced pork served with kimchi sauce, radish and pickles. You have to use the lettuce to wrap the pork and ingredients together. Pretty neat and delicious, I would say!! The pork is simply orgasmic – fresh and tender, finger licking good!!

We also had the 부대찌개, which refers to kimchi stew or Budae Jjigae. I really love having hotpot on cold winter days like this and Korean hotpot is my ultimate favourite!! It is like a combination of American ingredients and Korean traditional soup. The dish consists of ham, sausages, udon noodles, beans, tofu, spring onions and the soup has a combination of kimchi and gochujang paste. Both Vivian and I found the dish palatable but the only problem was the food was too much for us to handle. We felt that it was wasted when we could not finish the food.

Complementary soups -which I failed to touch on as we had so much food!

Ordered two bowls of rice for both of us and we also had complementary side dishes. My favourite would always be the shrimp dish, kimchi dish and bean sprouts!

The total bill came up to be 44,000 won (~CAD$44.50 / USD$41.14 / SGD$51.79) for two. As long as the food tastes authentic, I am willing to foot the bill! Same goes for my BFF!
