등나무집

Prior to going to Lotte World, BFF and I were starving so we wanted to have an early lunch. We were walking from our hotel located near sinnonhyeon to Gangnam and we chanced upon this restaurant and thought of dining there instantly!

When we came in, we wanted to order food but it was difficult conversing with the server so she asked us if we were Chinese and once we said yes, she went to grab the dishwasher to serve us. The other time when both of us are dining at another Korean restaurant located at Hapjeong, the server also asked the dishwasher to converse with us in Mandarin.  Through these dining experiences, I finally got to understand that a lot of people from China came to Korea to work and they could speak both Mandarin and Korean due to the history of their ancestors. The dishwasher was very kind to write many places for us to visit and kept giving us lots of information about Korea. The restaurant is looks ordinary but is quite neat, I would say!

First picture depicts all the food that we have ordered. The 2nd to 6th pictures show the complimentary side dishes that were served to us. I love the calms and tofu side dish the most as it is quite unique and different from side dishes served in other areas. The 9th to 12th photos show the Grilled Brisket Meat / 차돌박이 한우 BBQ set that we ordered. We found the meat decent but we had better ones. The quality of the meat pales in comparison to other restaurants such as 한국본갈비 and 보쌈애부대찌개 that we dined at. The set costs 25,000 won (~CAD$26.51 / USD$24.10 / SGD$30.20). We also tried the Seafood Nucurdled Bean Curd해물순두부, which is portrayed in the last photo. As usual, I love consuming Korean seafood tofu spicy soup during the winter as it really warms not only the body but also the soul and heart. This soup only costs 5,000 won (~CAD$5.30, USD$4.82, SGD$6.04) mind you! It is relatively cheap as compared to other countries. Moreover, the food is authentic too! What more can we ask for?

PAYMENT METHODS: CASH/CREDIT
Nearest Station: Gangnam Station

Ambiance: 6.5/10
Service: 9/10
Food (Taste & Appearance): 7/10
Value: 7/10

Total: 7.38/10★

Even though we were a little disappointed with the BBQ set, the service and tofu soup compensated for it! Sometimes, no matter how delicious the food is, if the service is really nasty, I would never head to the place again.
