On one of the days when the Hanyang University students and I did not have any cultural classes after our language classes, Suzuka, Yuzu and I went to meet my dearest Taiwanese Vancouverite (Von Von) & her brother (Alvin). We decided to go to Insadong to walk along the streets since it was Alvin’s first trip from Toronto to Seoul. We were taking Alvin to Ssamziegil when we saw something that caught our eye.

At the ground floor of Ssamziegil, there is a store called 이남설한과 selling all types of snacks or food. Around the corner lies a vendor that sells a Korean snack called똥빵 (ttongppang / poop bread / dong baang). It is similar to the fish like pancake called bungeoppang / 붕어빵 but for this pancake, it is the shape of a poop and it comprises of red bean and walnuts. The pancake has some significance because it reminds the Korean students of their health exams years ago. For something so crispy, chewy and sweet, I would have this as my dessert any day in Korea! Morover, it only costs 1,000 won (less than USD$1) – definitely worth every penny!

I have no idea why some people may feel uneasy consuming this just because of it’s shape but I am definitely loving this for it’s taste, texture and novelty!
