Acme Cafe

As I just came back from Singapore to Vancouver, Nungki and I decided to meet up to catch up and reminisce the good old days. Moreover, it was nearing her birthday at that time. We decided to go to Acme Cafe for brunch because I really miss breakfast/brunch places in Vancouver!

Acme Cafe is located at hastings area, where all the homeless people reside and mingle. As I gave Nungki 9-10 balloons for her birthday, we were walking along hastings area with those balloons. One of the homeless person was on drugs and kept asking us to give her a balloon. However, her friends kept dragging her away so we were very relieved when they left us alone. The moment we arrived at Acme Cafe, we saw the hostess at the door greeting and smiling at us. She was very welcoming and although the place was quite busy, we were seated right away. The cafe is quite neat, medium in size and very comfortable to dine in and the server was ever so ready to answer any enquiries and suggest food that suits our palate.

I had the Baked Eggs Benny (1st & 2nd pictures) while Nungki ordered the Baked Eggs Scramble (3rd-5th pictures). The meals cost CAD$10.75 each and it is worth it as we were so bloated after our brunch. I like how Acme Cafe did their eggs in a unique fashion. Their Baked Eggs Benny consists of English Muffin baked and filled with eggs and ham on top of shredded hash browns, topped with hollandaise sauce and garnished with shredded redskin potato at the side. There are cubes of honeydew to end the meal sweetly! The hollandaise sauce is very creamy but not too overwhelming to the palate. It felt like I was consuming home cooked breakfast in a cozy home as the food is so fresh, mouthwatering, not too greasy and not filled with lots of salt and other flavourings. Nungki’s meal came with hash browns, mushrooms, sun-dried tomato, goat cheese and shredded redskin potato at the base of the egg scramble with toast and fruits on the side. She also like her meal and found it value for money.
