#120 Men-ya Kaiko Hokkaido Ramen @ Ion, Singapore

I have not met Jny for about a year as I did not have time to attend gatherings at Vancouver and such. But sometime in December, I finally saw her at Singapore ! We wanted to eat at Hainanese Delicacy at Far East at first but it was close at 8PM. So, she recommended Hokkaido Ramen Kaiko to me.

On my first visit there with Jny, we did not have to wait long for us to be seated. We were greeted by the cook and he served us in a very friendly yet respectful manner. He is a true blue Japanese chef and he even offered to take pictures of us although it is not very spacious and there are so many customers around. The seating area is rather small and hidden. This also portrays exclusiveness.
I was craving for ramen when I brought Vivian there on my second visit.

1st picture – On both occasions, I had the Spicy Miso Ramen (SGD$15), with Japanese noodle and red miso soup. The red miso soup is very thick and the taste of the spiciness is stronger. The Japanese noodle tastes a little like the Korean instant noodle selling outside. However, I did not feel ripped off as it tastes way better than noodles (instant noodles to be precise) served in Hong Kong Cafes such as Xin Wang HK Cafe.
Ratings: 2.8/5★
I could not remember what Jny had and I did not have any pictures of food during our dine out there as we were busy catching up with one another. However, she was so sweet to give me a treat for our dinner there. We also had gyoza as a side dish, which makes it a very fulfilling dinner !
2nd picture – On my second visit there, Vivian had the Pork and Chicken Ramen for SGD$15.80. She also chose the Japanese noodle with white miso soup. The white miso had a milkier and milder taste. Vivian did not like her ramen at all. She found the soup too oily and the noodles to be very disgusting. When Crystal came to join us, she tried my dish and did not like how oily the soup was. She also found the ramen tasted like Korean instant noodles.

In conclusion, even though this restaurant had an average rating, I would like to head back there to try their ramen with non-Japanese noodles.
