I really enjoy consuming the cultural food of the country I visit so I was craving for Indonesian food so my cousin and his girlfriend brought me to Sate Khas Senayan for lunch on Lunar New Year Eve. We ate together with my “Gou Cek” as well.

Sate Khas Senayan is really big and there were lots of people dining there as well. It is a franchise outlet and there are other outlets at other malls of Jakarta. There are many pots of grass like items surrounding the restaurant and there are some fake miniature coconut trees scattered at the restaurant to make it look like we are dining with nature. As you know, lots of Indonesian food use coconut for their sauce or rice so that might be one of the reason for the decorations. The servers are very friendly and served attentively. I honestly prefer restaurant services in Indonesia to Singapore because they are very exceptionally good.

1st picture – We had two plates of Nasi Putih (White Rice – 8,000 Rp each) and two plates of Nasi Gurih (Coconut Rice – 9,000 Rp each) so each of us would have half of Nasi Putih and half of Nasi Gurih on our plates. Nasi Gurih fits my taste buds better than Nasi Putih. Would always prefer the former to the later when having South-East Asian food!

2nd picture – We also shared Tahu Telur, which costs 25,000 Rp. It is basically Beancurd Omelette in sweet sauce, topped with peanuts, sesame, spring onion, lettuce and bean sprouts. It is very appetizing and seeing this picture makes me want to take a plane to Jakarta right away!

3rd picture – Ci Henny recommended the Ketoprak so all of us shared this dish. It consists of rice noodle and vegetables such as cucumbers and bean sprouts served in peanut sauce and topped with keropok. The dish costs 23,000 Rp – very worth it! Please note that this dish is cold as it is the Indonesian form of a salad.

Ratings: 3/5★

4th picture – Wherever I go, I usually order Kang Kung in any South-East Asian restaurants! However, the Kang Kung at Sate Khas Senayan did not impress me. I guess because the other dishes taste a lot better. That explains it! It costs 23,000 Rp and compared to the other dishes that costs the same, it is definitely not worth the price.

Ratings: 2.7/5★

5th & 6th pictures – How can we NOT order Sate Ayam when we are at Sate Khas Senayan? That will totally defeat the purpose of heading there! We had chicken satay with onions, spicy peanut and chilli sauce at the side. The dish costs 34,000 Rp for about 8 sticks of satays. In case you do not know, satay consists of marinated, skewered and grilled meat served with sauce at the side. I have to give two thumbs UP for this dish as this is the highlight of our lunch! Tender meat with unique flavourings and seasoning – Nicely grilled!

1st & 2nd pictures – My uncle ordered Es Podeng  as he wanted to have desserts after his meal. He is a sweet-tooth person, just like me! Unfortunately for me, I have been trying to cut down on my sugar intake as I am growing older! I shared the Es Podeng with him since I wanted to try Indonesian desserts as well! Es Podeng consists of avocado, chopped bread, sago pearls and 2 scoops of traditional Indonesian ice-cream made from coconut milk topped with chocolate sprinkles. The dessert costs 17,000 Rp and it is gratifying to my taste buds! Got to put it in your “MUST EAT LIST” if you enjoy cultural desserts!

3rd picture – All the restaurants that I go to in Jakarta will definitely carry my favourite Avocado Juice! This costs 24,000 Rp and it will rock your socks as it has rock mine!
