before my okanagan trip in may, i wanted to know if there are any coupons for bakeries in kelowna so i checked all the coupon sites and nice enough, groupon was selling a CAN$5 for CAN$10 coupon for sandrine french pastry and chocolate. the moment i saw it, i knew i HAD to get it so i bought it ! i immediately notify kenny that this is one of the location that we should NOT miss ! he managed to print out a map on the directions to get there.

on the third day of our trip, we head to sandrine. we could not find the bakery initially due as we were led to orchard park mall in the GPS. so we searched around the mall, only to realized that the bakery is across the street from the mall, not inside the mall as stated by the GPS. the minute i went into sandrine, i started taking pictures of the interior and exterior of it. the bakery looks so small from the outside but it carries a lot of bakery goods and is spacious in reality. since it was already 4pm on a saturday, i was sad to see that there are very few selections left for both the pastries and cakes. also, the macaroons were SOLD OUT for the day ! the lady serving us was very detail-oriented. she told me which cakes could survive the distance back to vancouver and which cakes could not. she also recommended pastries to oscar, kenny and jack since they wanted to get something too.

1st picture – i ate the opera cake when i was back in vancouver. by then, the layers were already slanted and the the texture was very hard. the opera cake was made up of layers of joconde cake, chocolate ganache, chocolate buttercream and the top layer is made up of chocolate glaze. all these layers equate to layers of 6-7 layers of heaven !

2nd picture -the lemon meringue cake was also ate when i was back in vancouver. i was amazed that the shape of the cake was maintained throughout the trip. however, the texture is tough should. it should be kept out of the refrigerator 1 hour before consumption. i did not really enjoy the lemon meringue as it has intense lemon flavor, which is totally not my cup of tea.

3rd picture – like what the server stated, the moulin rouge cake also did not go bad throughout the trip. it is the prettiest cake of the lot so i brought it back home and saved it for my beloved cousin !  he told me it has a chocolate taste and he really love it since he is a fan of chocolates ! also, he found the macaroon delicious.

4th picture – i was very surprised to know that the hazelnut was almost melting 2 hours after leaving the store. we immediately air the cake for stronger breeze for the cake. after checking into the inn, i decided to put the cake box into the refrigerator instantly ! the next morning, i had the hazelnut cake for breakfast while the guys were eating macdonalds ! the hazelnut cake tastes exactly like a caffeinated ferrero rocher that totally melts in your mouth. the base of the cake is crispy.

ratings: 5/5★

the last cake that i forgot to take picture of was the black and white cake. i ate it at the same time as the hazelnut cake. half layer of a slice is covered with pecan chocolate ganache and the other half is covered with white chocolate whipped cream. the cake is really smooth and rich in chocolate and i was satisfied with the lightness in texture and it’s delicate crumb.

half dozen slices of cakes resulted in a total of CAN$29.70. indeed, it’s quality over quantity ! thanks to my CAN$10 groupon, i only had to pay CAN$19.70 but technically i’m only getting $5 off.
