bo laksa

i have heard about bo laksa long ago but never got a chance to actually go there. it was previously at joyce but it moved all the way to east hastings, which is not at my convenience. during anabel’s grad dinner, she was raving about how good the food is so i decided to head there with steph and gigi the following week.

steph drove both gigi and i to bo laksa since it is pretty in convenient by bus. i am unsure if bo laksa has rear parking as steph parked her car right in front of bo laksa. bo laksa is really small with little seating arrangements, which portrays exclusivity. it is a little messy and plain but as long as i get to eat my food, i am fine. the server had a standard service. i tried asking her more about the owner but she seems reluctant to answer my questions.

1st picture – we shared the mee goreng, which costs us CAN$7.95. mee goreng comprised of thin yellow noodles with pork, cilantro, bean sprouts, pickles and mixed with sweet soy sauce.  i’ve not ate mee goreng for the longest time so i miss the taste of it ! it tastes way better than many chinese dried noodles that i know of.

ratings: 3.5/5★

2nd & 5th pictures – gigi chose the pineapple fried rice (CAN$8.75) for all of us to share. it consisted of fried rice, chicken, onions,  parsley, chicken, pineapple and green pepper. i am quite surprise that such a reputable restaurant has such bad pineapple fried rice. gigi thinks that the pineapples taste weird. i agree with her to a huge extend as i did not want to touch the pineapples after i tried the first one. the fried rice was one of the worst dish from all that we ordered.

ratings: 2/5★

3rd & 4th pictures – we decided to get an appetizer as well since we wanted to try more food items. we had the beef satay (CAN$4.25) with rice cake and peanut sauce at the side.  we found the satay really stiff as the eat was not tender enough. it was hard for us to chew it due to it’s toughness. unfortunately, it is another bad dish consumed.

ratings: 2/5★

6th picture – we ll, the oh so famous laksa will definitely not be forgotten ! it is definitely worth CAN$7.95 as the coconut-based curry soup is thick and the laksa is one of the most authentic laksa i have ever tried in vancouver. we were given a choice to either have yellow or white noodles so we decided to have mixed noodles, which is half yellow noodles and half white noodles. the laksa also has bean sprouts, parsley, tofu puffs, onions, pickles and boiled egg. it is definitely the highlight of our dinner ! all of us were full but steph insisted on finishing the laksa.

ratings: 4.5/5★
