cafe d' light

it was pouring heavily on the 7th of may. thankfully, alex was driving us around so after a visit to the art exhibition at granville island, alex decided to bring us to cafe d’lite. this is like back to square 1, home sweet home !

the place was not very spacious and there were very little tables to cater to many customers. the server was very rude and didn’t pay any attention to us until we call them to make an order. it is just like any other singaporean restaurants with bad service, sigh.

1st picture – my previous maids used to cook bobo chacha when i brought many friends home. since then, i have developed a huge loving for bobo chacha and i will devour it whenever the opportunity arises. a lot of my friends love cold bobo chacha while i was raised with hot bobo chacha. thankfully, cafe d’lite serves hot bobo cha cha for CAN$2.99 and cold bobo chacha for CAN$4.99 so it caters to both tastebuds. the bobo chacha served in cafe d’lite is very light compared to the ones my maid usually cook. they put less coconut and it is far less sweeter than the ones i usually have. it is all good though because it is a healthier version than the ones i was brought up in. the sweet potato and yam were soft enough. i have tried cooking sogo pudding with mike and fae before and it is pretty hard to cook it right so the sogo in cafe d’lite is perfect !!

2nd picture – we shared the seafood laksa, which costs CAN$8.99. the usual laksa dishes that are sold in singapore comprised of thick, yellow rice noodles. however, the ones that are served in cafe d’lite consist of rice vermicelli, which is not to my liking. also, the coconut-based laksa soup does not have enough coconut. i feel like it is a little diluted. the dish had other ingredients such as shrimps, tofu, crabmeat and parsley. i would say that the seafood was fresh so that is probably the only positive factor of the laksa at cafe d’lite.

i will have laksa at hawkers delight over cafe d’lite anyday !

3rd and 4th pictures – cafe d’lite is known for their hainanese chicken rice (CAN$22.99 for one whole chicken) even at the food court of aberdeen mall. arya used to bring me to the cafe d’lite at aberdeen mall and i’m glad the ravings are true. it is indeed the best i have had in town ! the hainanese chicken rice in singapore are usually served hot. that explains why i freaked out the first time i had hainanese chicken rice in honolulu cafe because their chicken is served cold. thus, i asked the server to microwave it and was very pissed with the lack of authenticity. however, i can make an exception for cafe d’lite even though their chicken is served cold. thumbs up for the tenderness and smoothness !

in conclusion, cafe d’lite is one of the best choice for hainanese chicken rice and bobochacha.
