sushi town

the 20102010 crew (aldh, fae, mike & i) have yet to meet in a longggggggg time so fae and i suggested that we should meet up for lunch or something. initially, we had cafe delights in mind but after seeing that the place is so crowded and everyone just got seated, we decided to look for other restaurants around kitsilano area. we stumbled into the newly opened sanpachi ramen.

even though i did not like how salty my tonkatsu ramen was previously, i decided to give sanpachi the benefit of doubt and asked kenny & co. to try it for his birthday since each of them has yet to try the ramen. i decided to get the shio ramen since the broth is thicker. everyone commented that the portion is huge – more than enough and you don’t even need to add more noodles like benkei. also, they did not have the 30 – 50% discounts for the evenings. apparently, they offer it only during lunch. i wanna give their service a huge applause for how all the servers gather together to surprise kenny & sing him a birthday song at the end. they kept refilling water for us without our requests. i would have to increase the ratings for service from 7.5/10 to 9/10. also, the ramen did not taste as salty as what i have previously experienced. the shio was fine and way better than benkei’s. i am increasing the ratings for taste from 5.5/10 to 7/10, based on the shio ramen and the tapas iva ordered. more updates soon !

i have been hearing raves about this restaurant awhile ago. they have the other branch at robson. the interior is so neat and beautifully decorated but it does not suit the japanese theme. the waitress explains all the discounts of the ramens and gives lots of suggestions. she is very real and attentive as she kept refilling tea for us. i was surprised to know that sanpachi had lots of ramens 30%-50% off !

miso ramen

i had the tonkatsu ramen (1st picture) with an egg (CAN$7.16 + CAN$1.00), which is too salty at first sip. i was shocked by the amount of salt it has. my ramen also had too much sesame. i tried not to have too much soup intake so that i won’t be dehydrated and such. it’s a 5.5/10★ .aldhyan had the shio ramen (2nd picture), which is 30% off (thus, only CAN$6.27). he also added an egg, which cost him a dollar more. it is creamy and aldhyan thought that it is just average. he gave a rating of 6.5-7/10★. mike’s shouyu ramen (3rd picture) is pretty bold and all of us agree to it but mike was starving so he just ate everything within minutes ! fae had the miso ramen (4th picture) but she couldn’t finish it because the soup becomes more and more salty as you eat it. she found the place nice but food average. she gave a rating of 6/10★

ambiance: 9.5/10
service: 7.5/10
food (taste & appearance): 5.5/10
value: 7/10

total: 7.38/10★

in conclusion, sanpachi ramens are standard but has too much salt in it.

many people compare sushi town with sushi california and i found latter better than the former until i tried their spicy salmon sashimi. the first time i went there, it stinked. this time, the aroma is fine. it was really busy at around 5-6+pm though so the servers were not very attentive to us.

fine and i shared the large spicy salmon sashimi (4th picture) and chicken katsu don (1st picture). the spicy salmon sashimi at sushi town is comparable to sushi california’s. thus, 5/5★. supri, kent and vicky got the small spicy salmon sashi, which is what the third picture depicts. the katsu don is huge in portion and i really like how crispy of the chicken is. everyone was trying to steal the salads as it is very yummy, according to what people said. i’m giving it a 4/5★
