we were starving and the weather was freezing cold so i did not snap the exterior of the restaurant since it was dark anyways. there is a huge car park opposite the restaurant so no worries if you are going by car but i ain’t sure about taking transit. i have to salute the server for being patient with me pressing the ” cancellation ” button about 5 times. i did not do it on purpose, mind you. the place is relatively spacious. i was quite shocked to find 2 pages of menu listing all the alcoholic drinks. i’m so familiar with all the food in the menu as it is deeply rooted in me – way back into love – SINGAPOREAN FOOD !

char kway teow – CAN$9.50

i have to say the char kuey teow at tamarind hill beats hawkers’ delight and coco hut HANDS DOWN ! it is not very oily and i can taste the tinge of spiciness like how i used to in sunny singapore. the sweet sauce is perfectly seasoned for my palate. too bad, there weren’t enough shrimps. it is one of the most authentic char kuey teow in town ! unfortunately, it is only located at extreme areas such as new westminster and north vancouver only. for people who do not know what char kuey teow is, it is basically stir-fried flat rice noodle with spicy sweet soy, egg, bean sprout, shrimps, fish cake and cuttlefish.

nasi goreng – CAN$9.50

i kept craving for more when i took my first bite of the nasi goreng. the portion of the food is definitely a tad too much for a person. the fried rice consist of a variety of ingredients such as beef, shrimps, egg, tomato, onion and green bean. it is simply mouth-watering although i wish it was way more spicier.

ratings: 3/5★

sambal kang kong – CAN$10.00

i like how the dried shrimps compliment the kang kong. again, i could taste a tinge of spice in the kang kong but i would really like my food HOT ! the kang kong is really crunchy and flavorful with the help of the sambal sauce.

ratings: 3/5★

the total cost is CAN$32.48 inclusive of tax and we paid about CAN$36.48 inclusive of tips.

in conclusion, i will come back to tamarind hill to try more singaporean gastronomic goodies !

  • [...] as for the kang kung belanchan, it is HUGE in terms of portion. i reckon that the minimum number of people able to share the rice and kang kung belanchan is 4. 3 of us had to force ourselves to finish the food up. the kang kung is not as spicy as i expect though but the standard is exactly like tamarind hill malaysian cuisine.
