it was a gloomy saturday and it so happens that both janet and i were late for church so we decided to have our first meal of the day at han ju tofu hotpot since i haven’t been there for 2 years.

i used to frequent han ju tofu hotpot but it ceased when i was together with my ex-boyfriend. the place is owned by taiwanese people so i cannot say it is authentic but for casual, quick and affordable hot pots and bibimpaps, the restaurant is not so bad after all. the only negative connotation that is associated with it is it’s cluttered tables. it’s hard to have private conversations if you’re sitting with someone else.

kimchi hotpot – CAN$5.95

this was served with mussels, tofu, kimchi, sliced pork, squid, vermicelli and rice at the side. for me, i love dipping the rice into the soup before consuming it. however, having too much carbohydrates make me so bloated that i try to avoid the rice altogether. in my opnion, the kimchi hotpot is not spicy at all. the sliced pork is well-cooked and it taste gratifying with the soup. the tofu is not very soft but still eatable. i do not indugle much on the mussels and squid as i’m neutral to those food.

ratings: 3/5★

i have tried the other hot pots before and once i stated that i want it to be spicy, all soups tasted alike ! trust me on that.

bibimbap – i’ve tried the bibimbap a couple of times. the portion is huge. of course, it is unauthentic and the food is average but still, not unappealing and unappetizing. actually, i want to give it a try sometime soon since i haven’t tried it for 2 years.

i first went to g-men during the summer this year. jason is quite a fan of it so during both times, i went to have ramen there with him. the place is like ajisen – very spacious and the seats are really comfortable unlike benkei, kintaro and santouka. there are plenty of parking space outside the restaurant. we often have to wait for 10 minutes to get a table. the servers are really understanding when we take a long time to order.

tonkotsu miso ramen – CAN$8.50

the pork broth is really thick and pleasing to my taste buds. i prefer the black wood mushrooms at g-men over santouka but i prefer the pork at santouka over g-men. the pork slices are not as tender and soft as the ones at santouka. the ramen from both g-men and santouka are comparable though. in my opinion, ajisen ramen is the best in town !

miso, cheese and kimchi ae soba – CAN$8.50

jason seems to order this ramen all the time. i didn’t get his review but it consist of thick noodle seasoned with housemade shoyu flavor, topped with bbq pork, seaweed, black wood ear mushroom and green onion.

the total bill came up to CAN$18.00 so we gave CAN$20.00 in total.

special torigara shoyu ramen – CAN$8.50

the first time jason and i went to g-men, i had this ramen. i felt that the soup had too much soy sauce so i didn’t like it as much as the tonkotsu miso ramen. but how can i complain since it’s shoyu. i like the fact that it had half ajitama as i love eating it with the soup. the yolk totally compliments ! too bad this ramen is only served during lunch hours.
